Iron and Clay Cowpeas Seed Use Map
Description
These late maturing annual peas are extremely high yielding, providing nourishment for wildlife, including quail, turkey, rabbit, doves and deer. Once established, it is very tolerant to deer grazing. Iron and Clay Cowpeas are used in commercial deer forage mixtures. They also produce large amounts of nitrogen and organic matter to enrich the soil. When planted after a spring garden, they can help prevent summer week growth. Iron and Clay Cowpeas also have long taproots to help them withstand drought and grow in desert summers with only moderate irrigation.
